The recent history of Golden Eagle Camp is marked by transitions between passionate owners and the loyalty of its Northern Ontario clientele. In 2009, Bruce and Jenn acquired the outfitter to lead an adventure lasting nearly ten years. During their management, the establishment hosted numerous hunting and fishing trips, building loyalty among groups of hunters, some of whom have been visiting the site for 35 years. In May 2018, the property was sold to Mike and Liz Young, originally from Hamilton, Ontario, who took over as the camp's hosts. The former owners stayed on-site for a few weeks to ensure
a smooth transition before the opening of the summer season. Over the years, Golden Eagle Camp has stood out through several highlights. On August 18, 2013, a record black bear weighing 598 pounds was harvested on the territory by hunter Jerry Davenport. The quality of the outfitter's bear hunting was also the subject of an article and video report by Dale Hainer for Ontario Out of Doors magazine. In terms of outdoor activities, the establishment was selected in 2011 by the ATV Nation organization to host the tenth edition of its annual National Ride event, highlighting the vast network of ATV trails surrounding the site. Fraser Lake is stocked annually with brook trout by a ministry program, and the shallow Beaver Lake (6 to 12 feet) supports a significant population of northern pike. Golden Eagle Camp offers a wide range of outdoor activities throughout the year. Fishing enthusiasts can explore the Montreal River, Sydney Creek, and a network of remote lakes (Sisseney, Hubert, Sydney, Planty, Mistinikon, Middleton, and Beaver) for spin casting, trolling, jigging, or fly fishing. Target species include walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, and yellow perch. Ice fishing is also practiced on certain bodies of water such as Fraser and Beaver lakes. The outfitter rents 14 and 16-foot boats, Deluxe and Premium category boats equipped with sonars and livewells, canoes, kayaks, and a pedal boat, and provides docks for guests' boats.

This place is a true hidden gem. The staff is helpful and friendly. You'll find everything you need, including electricity and running water, dry firewood, clean linens, cooking utensils, and even a cast-iron skillet for steaks. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. It is an ideal place to recharge. Wildlife is abundant. On the other hand, avoid planning to do your grocery shopping around Kirkland or Matheson, as it could break your budget. My husband, our two young children, and I are regulars at Golden Eagle Camp. I was introduced to it as a child (the owners were different back then), and returning years later with my husband, I won him over right away. Liz and Mike are truly wonderful people. They work tirelessly to make sure their guests are spoiled. The camp feels like a small community, the atmosphere is that warm. The cabins are gorgeous and rustic. You really have to love nature and the great outdoors to fully appreciate everything the camp has to offer. For us, it's our second home, our safe haven, our little piece of paradise. Our 4-year-old daughter loves going there and makes a point of visiting Liz and Mike every day, often multiple times a day. They are always tending to the camp, 24/7, but they also always take a few minutes to chat, visit, accept a flower, look for chipmunk burrows, go for a walk, share an ice cream, and so much more. We are always welcomed with exceptional kindness and warmth. Their playground, beach, and fire pit form a beautiful space. The lake is splendid and the scenery is breathtaking. During our second stay this year, we opted for the summer bear hunting package, and we were thrilled. The overall atmosphere is second to none. Every visit is a magical moment and we happily make the 9-hour drive every year to be there, even now with two young children. We have never met a couple like Liz and Mike, so dedicated to offering an absolutely fantastic northern experience. If, like us, you love nature, Golden Eagle Camp is the ideal place.
