The outfitter

Founded in 1985 by Joe Vilidka, Joe's Salmon Lodge is a floating facility anchored in the heart of Hakai Pass on British Columbia's central coast. Located within the Hakai Lúxvbálís Conservancy, the site enjoys a strategic location on the Pacific salmon migration route. Anglers target Chinook (King) and Coho (Silver) salmon, as well as halibut and lingcod in a marine environment rich in baitfish. The experience focuses on self-guided fishing aboard 17-foot Boston Whalers, equipped with 60 HP motors, pre-programmed GPS, Lowrance sonar, VHF marine radio, and all necessary gear (rods, reels, lures, bait, and coolers). team cleans, restocks, and refuels the boats. Staying directly in the rooms of the floating lodge, guests enjoy West Coast-style buffet meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. To-go lunch boxes are also available for those wishing to spend the full day on the water. At the end of the day, catches are weighed and then handled by the staff: fish are cleaned, vacuum-sealed, flash-frozen, and packed in insulated boxes for the return trip. Optional processing services (smoking, canning) are also available through St. Jean's Cannery.

Joe's Salmon Lodge is located in Hakai Pass on the central coast of British Columbia, approximately halfway between Vancouver Island and Prince Rupert, about 300 miles north of Port Hardy. This wild island sector is characterized by a labyrinth of islands, channels, protected bays, rocky coastlines, and kelp beds. These coastal waters are part of the Hakai Lúxvbálís Conservancy, one of the largest marine protected areas on the British Columbia coast. Access to the outfitter is by a combination of plane and boat. The trip includes a round-trip flight from Vancouver Airport's South Terminal to Bella Bella. From Bella Bella, the transfer to the lodge is provided by a water taxi service.
