The history of Bakers Narrows Lodge is rooted in the heart of Northern Manitoba on the shores of Lake Athapapuskow, a body of water whose Cree name means "rocks all around." In the early 1900s, this territory played a crucial historical role in the development of the mining town of Flin Flon, as the lake served as an essential transportation route for ore. The region also gained international fame for its exceptional waters, illustrated by the legendary catch of a 63-pound lake trout in 1930, followed by an estimated 64-pound specimen caught in 2008 by John Wolters, the outfitter's iconic
senior guide. Over the decades, the establishment has become a gathering point for fishing and outdoor enthusiasts, recently expanding its wilderness operations with the addition of remote fly-in outposts such as Kamuchawie Lake Fly-In Lodge and Laurie Lake Fly-In Outpost.
Located north of the 54th parallel, the territory extends across the Canadian Shield around Lake Athapapuskow, whose Cree name means "rocks all around." This 267-square-kilometer glacial lake reaches depths of 233 feet and features over 1,100 islands divided into three sections: Big Athapap, Little Athapap, and the North Arm. The surrounding landscape offers a rugged, rocky wilderness. While the main site is road-accessible, visitors can also reach remote lakes by ATV or aircraft.

into three basins (Big Athapapuskow, Little Athapapuskow, and the North Arm), along with surrounding lakes such as Alberts, Barbie, Mikanagan, Wabishkok, and Kamuchawie, hosts a wide variety of sport fish. These include lake trout, renowned for trophy specimens that inhabit deep 70- to 110-foot pockets in summer before moving to shallow spawning grounds in the fall. Walleye, northern pike lurking in weed beds, burbot, smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, brook trout, whitefish, and yellow perch also thrive here. In the forest and along the shorelines, terrestrial and avian wildlife include black bears, moose, and ruffed grouse.
Bakers Narrows Lodge offers a wide range of outdoor activities throughout the seasons. Fishing is the flagship activity, available in both open water and on ice. Anglers can choose between guided or self-guided packages on Lake Athapapuskow, as well as fly-in day trips to remote lakes or ATV excursions along old trapper trails. The outfitter rents 18- to 20-foot motorized boats, a fully equipped pontoon boat, and all necessary fishing gear. In winter, ice fishing is supported by specialized equipment: portable shelters, heated shacks, the luxurious Glacier Ice House, snowmobiles, and Snowcat or Snow Van tracked vehicles for travel on
the frozen lake. Guests can also enjoy northern lights and stargazing from a Deluxe Aurora Pod. The outfitter also offers snowmobile and snowshoe rentals, with access to 28 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails nearby. During the summer and fall seasons, visitors can enjoy touring or fishing kayaks, notably on Lake Wabishkok to Mikanagan Falls, as well as canoeing, paddleboarding, or fat biking. Hiking is available on the Brian King interpretative trail between Camp Whitney and Limestone Narrows, along the Flinty Boardwalk, on the Kart Springs trail, or up to the Bakers Narrows viewing tower.
