Nestled in the Almaguin Highlands region, this irregularly shaped body of water covers approximately 1,600 acres and stretches 11 kilometers long by 5 kilometers wide. The lake is divided into two sections by a narrow channel and features several bays, including Railway Bay on the north shore. Hydrographically, Lake Nosbonsing is fed by Depot Creek as well as local springs. At its eastern end, the Kaibuskong River forms the lake's outlet and flows
into the Mattawa River. This aquatic ecosystem provides a structured and diverse habitat for many freshwater fish species. The fish fauna includes walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, muskellunge, and yellow perch. Walleye is particularly sought after from the opening of the season in May and throughout the summer. Northern pike regularly reach sizes of up to 38 inches. Largemouth bass are primarily concentrated in the structures of Railway Bay, while smallmouth bass are distributed throughout the lake. Muskellunge is the top predator in these waters. To preserve the resource, regulations require the release of any muskellunge under 48 inches, though specimens exceeding 50 pounds have been recorded here.
Big Moose Camp offers a full range of outdoor activities across all four seasons. During the summer, sport fishing takes center stage on Lake Nosbonsing with catches of walleye, pike, bass, musky, and perch. The outfitter offers motorboat rentals (14 and 16-foot aluminum boats, Crestliner console boats, 18-foot pontoons equipped with livewells and fish finders), as well as a boat launch, docking slips, fuel, and bait sales (minnows and worms). Local fishing tournaments are also organized here by the Nosbonsing Anglers & Hunters and the North Bay Bassmasters. Water sports and leisure activities include water skiing, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, tubing, and
pleasure boating. Single and double kayaks, pedal boats, paddleboards, and canoes are available for rent. On-site, families enjoy a private beach with a swimming raft, an 18-hole mini-golf course, a children's playground, a volleyball court, and horseshoe pits. For hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, the Corbeil Nature Trail and the Wasi Ski and Snowshoe Trails are located nearby. In winter, the camp offers ice fishing packages with wood-heated huts, solar LED lighting, and direct lake placement. For snowmobile and ATV enthusiasts, the establishment provides access to groomed OFSC trails (including TOP D trail and the 234 km Explorer's Snow Tour), the Voyageur Multi-Use Trail System (VMUTS), and the Bonfield Lions Club ATV events.

Nous avons passé de superbes vacances cette semaine, dans un endroit facile d'accès avec de nombreuses activités à faire dans la région. Nous avons pêché du doré jaune pour un bon déjeuner au bord de l'eau et nous avons profité de leur séjour sur le lac gelé.

C'est un endroit idéal pour s'essayer à la pêche sur glace si vous appréciez le calme de la nature et une véritable expérience hivernale. Nous avons pêché sur le lac gelé par un froid glacial et, même si nous n'avons rien attrapé, l'expérience en elle-même restera gravée dans nos mémoires. L'atmosphère était calme et paisible, et le cadre semblait authentique et isolé. Les installations étaient bien entretenues et confortables malgré les conditions difficiles. Même sans poisson, nous avons eu l'impression de vivre une authentique aventure hivernale canadienne.

Nous avons passé un séjour extraordinaire au Big Moose Camp pour notre lune de miel interprovinciale cette semaine ! Les hôtes sont très accueillants et prévenants, et la vue sur le lac depuis la terrasse de chaque chalet est tout simplement magnifique. Nicky et Claude possèdent un superbe complexe hôtelier au bord du lac Nosbonsing. Nous avons hâte d'y retourner ! 👍

Nous avons passé un séjour formidable lors du long week-end de la fête des familles. Nicky, Claude et leur famille tiennent un magnifique campement en bord de mer, parfaitement entretenu. L'hébergement était excellent, l'accueil très chaleureux et le service impeccable. Claude est venu plusieurs fois à notre cabane pour nous réapprovisionner en appâts et en bois de chauffage pour notre cabane de pêche sur glace louée chez eux. Nicky répondait toujours très rapidement à nos messages et appels, et nous avons attrapé quelques beaux brochets, ce qui est toujours un plus. Nous prévoyons déjà d'y retourner cet été et de louer un bateau de pêche pour un autre séjour au Big Moose Camp.
