Lake Baskatong, also known as the Baskatong Reservoir, is a vast artificial body of water created in 1927 following the construction of the Mercier Dam. Originally used for log driving, this impressive reservoir covers an area of 413 square kilometers with a perimeter of approximately 1,800 kilometers and sandy shores extending over 2,800 kilometers, giving it the feel of a true inland sea. The water body features more than 160 charted islands and is fed by several major tributaries, including the Gens de Terre, Notawassi, Petawaga, d'Argent, and Gatineau rivers. Located in Grand-Remous on the border between the Outaouais and Laurentides regions near the La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve, Lake Baskatong is renowned for its quality fishing, sandy beaches, swimming, and recreational boating.
