After calling the lodge when passing the French River Trading Post, a water taxi will pick you up to take you to the island.

Located on an island in the French River, Crane’s Lochaven Wilderness Lodge offers all-inclusive stays just three and a half hours north of Toronto. Accommodations consist of private log cabins with daily housekeeping service. Packages include all meals, a 16-foot boat with a Yamaha motor, fuel, and fishing gear. Target walleye, northern pike, bass, and muskellunge, either independently or with a professional guide. On-site, enjoy hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and a recreation room.
The outfitter is established on Commanda Island (the eastern end of 18-Mile Island) at the junction of the North and Main channels of the French River. The surrounding landscape is characterized by deep shorelines, numerous bays, rocky islands, and pine forests. The territory features six sets of whitewater rapids nearby, including the Chaudière Rapids 16 kilometers away. Being located on an island, the lodge is accessible only by water taxi from the private parking lot in Wolseley Bay.

Wow! How can I describe such an extraordinary trip? It's a rustic lodge on the banks of the French River. I brought my three grandsons there, who fished from morning till night. We had Eric as our guide; he taught the kids not only how to fish, but also about the region and the river. He is a born teacher, with incredible patience when dealing with the endless questions of three curious boys. We were warmly welcomed and, after just a few days, one thing was clear: we will be back next year! Thank you

Ed and Sue are absolutely wonderful. We had the pleasure of spending 5 days at Lochaven. From our arrival by water taxi until our departure 5 days later, we were in paradise. The accommodation was exceptional. The facilities and boats were fantastic! The people, the staff, and the other guests were really very friendly. This place is truly amazing! 10/10! We will be back! ❤️

I just returned from a five-day stay at Crane's, my first visit to this little gem on the French River. It was the lodge's opening weekend and they had to deal with record river flooding, unseen for years. This obviously presented major challenges for the owners and their team, but they bent over backwards to ensure their guests had a completely worry-free stay. Everything was perfect: the accommodation, the food, the equipment, and the staff, who were always friendly and attentive. The owners, Sue and Ed, are wonderful people who have been working in this business for years and know the river like the back of their hand, as well as the best fishing spots. The drive from my home in Pennsylvania takes twelve hours, but every minute and every kilometre were well worth it.

I have been going to Crane's every year for a few years now and I have never been disappointed. Sue and Ed, the hosts, along with their team, are wonderful people and the hospitality is excellent. The scenery on the French is breathtaking. The fishing can sometimes be tough, sometimes miraculous, but you always have a chance to catch a trophy fish, whether it's musky, pike, bass, walleye, catfish, etc.
