Hidden River Lodge exceeded our expectations. I wanted to take my wife on her first Canadian fishing trip, and we couldn’t have chosen a better place. We stayed on the American Plan, and every meal was home-cooked, delicious, and incredibly satisfying. The portions were generous, and you never left the table hungry. My wife especially loved being able to relax all week without having to worry about cooking. Matt and Allison were outstanding hosts—friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help. Our cabin was cozy, clean, and comfortable, with satellite TV, a full kitchen, and a bathroom with a shower. There was plenty of hot water, the beds were very comfortable, and the newer windows with screens made the cabin even more enjoyable. The fishing was phenomenal. We caught walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, and perch. My wife and I had several days where we caught more than 40 walleyes between us. Matt was always happy to point us in the right direction, and the other guests were equally willing to share tips and advice. The Whitefish Lake system is very big. It felt like we had the lake all to ourselves. I brought my own boat, but the lodge’s boats looked well-maintained and were equipped with 25-horsepower motors. The docks are located in a protected bay, with electricity available for charging batteries and excellent lighting for returning after dark. Matt is also a master at cleaning fish, which was a great bonus after a successful day on the water. Whether you’re a first-time Canadian angler or a seasoned fisherman, Hidden River Lodge is an excellent choice. My wife said she had the best time and found the entire trip incredibly relaxing. We’re grateful for the memories we made and are already looking forward to returning.
