On the shores of Lac Portage and Lac Champagne, in the Appalachians of the Chaudière-Appalaches region at St-Théophile, Pourvoirie du Lac Portage occupies a rustic estate built by the Breakey family in the early 1900s and run as a private hunting and fishing club from 1920 on. The 22 km² forested territory, which borders the Canada-US line, is now owned by the Nature Conservancy, while the outfitter has been operated by Gestizone since 2016. Fishing takes place on four lakes for brook trout and rainbow trout, while lodging is offered in a century-old inn and five fully equipped rustic cabins.
The history of the Lac Portage territory dates back to the 19th century when it was frequented by Abenaki people, loggers, and merchants. In 1884, the Breakey family, originally from Ireland, acquired this exceptional estate. A prominent figure in the Beauce economy, this pioneering family excelled in logging along the Chaudière River as early as 1846, employing up to 2,000 men each spring and transporting wood by floating it down to Sainte-Hélène-de-Breakeyville. Captivated by the wild beauty of Lac Portage, the Breakey family chose to preserve this natural gem and, in the early 20th century, began building rustic vacation buildings,
including the main Lodge erected in 1911. From 1920 to 1992, the territory operated as a private hunting and fishing club, frequented by many notable figures. In 1993, the site transitioned into an outfitter to offer access to outdoor enthusiasts. A major turning point occurred in 2014 when Mr. Rex Scott, a grandson of the Breakey family, donated this forest territory to the Nature Conservancy of Canada to ensure its permanent protection. Since July 2016, the private environmental firm Gestizone has owned Pourvoirie du Lac Portage. It continues the tradition of hospitality while working in concert with the Nature Conservancy of Canada to preserve this historical and wildlife heritage, unique to the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
The Pourvoirie du Lac Portage is located in Saint-Théophile, in Chaudière-Appalaches, on a forest territory surrounded by several lakes and rivers. Access is via Route 173, also known as the President-Kennedy route, then along the Lac-du-Portage road. The Pourvoirie du Lac Portage is accessible by car, and admission is by reservation, with an access code provided at the time of booking.

Superbe séjour à la pourvoirie au Lac Portage pour la pêche à la truite! Ce n'était pas la grosse période quand nous y sommes allés au mois d'août, mais nous en avons pêché quelques-unes quand même! Le chalet des Chutes était très bien et assez grand! Les propriétaires sont très sympathiques et bien organisés!
