Discover Pourvoirie J.E. Goyette

The outfitter

Opportunity to fish three species of fish, including 10 speckled trout with no catch-and-release, three pike measuring 24 inches and up, and one gray trout (touladi) with no catch-and-release and no length limit. With only 8 chalets on 116 km², several lakes are available!

Its story

In the 1880s, Quebec opened up access to its waterways and its territories to Canadian and American hunting & fishing enthusiasts, who were known as “hunting & fishing clubs.” The goal was to ensure wildlife protection. That meant the clubs had to provide protection and guard their respective territories (thereby reducing the costs for the government). The story of Pourvoirie J.E. Goyette began in the years when these private clubs were rapidly growing. The outfitter was then a club owned by the son of the famous Anne Stillman McCormick: Alexander Stillman. From 1930 to 1973, Mr. Goyette (Ernest) served as

the club’s caretaker. He was used to bringing his sons along, and they took their first steps in chalet #1 (one of the first chalets built). Back then, the property could only be reached by plane or portage. Private clubs were later abolished by the Government of Quebec in the 1970s. The reorganization of the system gave rise to controlled harvesting zones (Zecs), free territories, and outfitter operations. In 1973, Mr. Goyette’s son, Émile, acquired the outfitter. In 1983, Émile tragically lost his life in a plane accident. The youngest of his brothers, Jacques, decided to take over. In 2014, the outfitter was sold to Guy Paradis, a Latuquois who, with his very welcoming and dynamic family, continues to improve the property. Today, the new owner works constantly on his outfitter, with the goal of satisfying their clientele. The outfitter offers 8 chalets that can accommodate up to 12 people, with all the required amenities, and are rated 2 to 4 stars. European plan packages are available for fishing and hunting, as well as for vacationing. Since the outfitter covers a large area of 116.2 square kilometres on a territory with exclusive rights, moose hunters have an average success rate of 70%. But it’s also an excellent hunting area for black bear and small game. For anglers, you’ll find about thirty lakes, including a dozen accessible by car, offering speckled trout, lake trout (gray trout), and Northern pike. At Pourvoirie J.E. Goyette, trophies are far from rare! You’ll be impressed by the majestic scenery of red pines—just 1 hour from La Tuque by taking forest road 461 (Route 25), the junction with 459 (junction 23 South)—and 4 hours from Montréal and Québec. The outfitter’s guests return year after year, showing great satisfaction.
