The Alberta Minister's Special Licence (MSL) program, administered by the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society (APOS), offers exceptional hunting opportunities throughout the province. Non-resident hunters must use the services of an outfitter to hunt big game, including bighorn sheep and moose. Depending on the guided hunts organized in Alberta, accommodations and experiences range from fly-in tent camps to mountain horseback expeditions, river canoe trips, or ATV excursions across the prairies.

The hunting territories covered by special permits span the entire province of Alberta, offering significant geographical diversity. The terrain and landscape vary according to the target species: mountainous areas for bighorn sheep, river valleys and forested areas for Canada moose, or the southwestern sector of Alberta which is home to Shiras moose.
