Pourvoirie Musquanousse — Algonquin for 'little bear' — is a salmonid paradise on Quebec's Basse-Côte-Nord, set amid an endless network of waterways in zone 19. Its one-of-a-kind salmon river strings together several river stretches and a chain of lakes over 28 km (fly-fishing only on the river, with 8 trail-accessed pools along 8 km from the sea). Five salmonid species swim here — a combination unique in Quebec: Atlantic salmon, sea trout, landlocked salmon (ouananiche), arctic char and brook trout. sea; 14 recent fibreglass boats (14 to 16 ft) with new 9.9 to 25 hp motors range across the whole territory. Lodging is at the log lodge (American plan, capacity 8 in double occupancy, gourmet meals by chef Mélanie Racicot) or in a remote self-catered cabin on the large lake (capacity 6). Reachable only by floatplane from Natashquan, the site caps its bookings at about 100 guests a year to keep the territory free of fishing pressure. Acquired in 1960, the outfitter has been run since 2019 by Mr. Desjardins — over 40 years of guided-fishing experience — and Ms. Racicot.
