The history of Helen Falls Lodge is rooted in the heart of the George River territory, 35 miles from Ungava Bay. The Inuit from the village of Kangiqsualujjuaq were the first to discover the salmon holding pools at Helen Falls. The potential of this fishing site was later revealed in the early 1950s by Bob May, then manager of the Hudson's Bay Company post at Fort Chimo (Kuujjuaq). The camp is set on the shores of the George River, in the heart of an arctic tundra environment marked by immense rapids, waterfalls, fjords, steep cliffs, and close proximity to the Torngat Mountains.
