In 1911, Narcisse Théodule Paré built the first hydroelectric plant in Saint-Alban. Following damage caused by severe weather, he was forced to sell his dam to the Shawinigan Water and Power Company. In 1926, the Shawinigan Water and Power Company began construction of the Saint-Alban II plant, which went into service in 1927.
