Discover Pourvoirie Lac Geneviève d'Anticosti

The outfitter

On Anticosti, Quebec's largest island (nearly 8,000 km² at the mouth of the Gulf of St. Lawrence), Pourvoirie Lac Geneviève d'Anticosti holds an exclusive 721 km² territory renowned for its abundance of white-tailed deer. In fall, you hunt deer at your own pace in zone 20 — where the Anticosti-exclusive licence allows two deer of any category — on the American plan (guided, all meals), the European plan, or the self-guided rustic plan at the Camp du Lac Valiquette. Each group is assigned an exclusive sector within the vast territory. In summer, from mid-June to late August, vacation packages with

a vehicle and lodging let you explore the island: spectacular geological formations, the ecomuseum and abandoned villages, shipwrecks and lighthouses, and wildlife — deer, foxes, beavers, otters, seals and bald eagles — plus shoreline hikes where forest meets sea and brook-trout fishing offered by daily lottery. Lodging ranges from the five 4-star cedar cabins on Lac Geneviève (max 6 people) to the two former lighthouse-keeper houses at Pointe-Nord by the sea (max 8 people). The main camp sits 30 minutes (32 km) from Port-Menier, the island's only village. A working outfitter since 1982.

Its story

Founded in 1982, Pourvoirie Lac Geneviève d’Anticosti stands out for its unique status: it is a non-profit organization owned by members who are all residents of Anticosti Island. Established in the heart of Quebec's largest island, the outfitter's mission is to contribute to the development of its local community while ensuring and promoting access to the territory for outdoor sports. From its inception, the organization has placed environmental ethics at the center of its management by encouraging the protection, conservation, and renewal of wildlife resources. Its head office is located in Port-Menier, the island's only village, while its main camp

is located 32 kilometers (about 30 minutes) from the village and the airport. Over the decades, the outfitter has developed activities adapted to the seasons. During the summer, it offers cottage rentals and vacation packages to explore the natural environment. In the fall, the 721 km2 exclusive territory is dedicated to white-tailed deer hunting packages in American, European, or rustic plans. The accommodation offer is structured around iconic sites: five cedar cottages located on the shores of Lake Geneviève, two former lighthouse keeper's houses converted at Pointe-Nord, and a rustic camp on the shores of Lake Valiquette. Managed by the island community, the company prioritizes human values and authentic hospitality.

Territory and geography

Wildlife and habitat

Pourvoirie Lac Geneviève d'Anticosti is located on Anticosti Island, Quebec's largest island covering nearly 8,000 km², situated at the mouth of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The outfitter's exclusive territory spans 721 km² in hunting zone 20, crossing the island from north to south. This exceptional wilderness environment is characterized by coastal landscapes where the forest meets the sea, spectacular cliffs stretching as far as the eye can see at Cap Caron, and remarkable geological formations such as the Trois-Plaines cave. The territory features several inland water bodies and watercourses, including Lake Geneviève, Lake Valiquette, Lake St-Georges, and the Bec-Scie

River. Wildlife is particularly abundant and diverse. The white-tailed deer is the island's flagship species, found in very high densities. Small game is also well-established, including snowshoe hare, ruffed grouse, and spruce grouse. Terrestrial and semi-aquatic wildlife includes red, silver, and black foxes, beaver, and river otter, while the coastline hosts various seal species. The lakes and rivers are home to brook trout. For birdwatching enthusiasts, over 200 bird species have been recorded on the island, including the majestic bald eagle, osprey, and numerous shorebirds that frequent Port-Menier Bay and Lake St-Georges. Additionally, the island's vegetation requires special vigilance due to its flammable nature.

On site
