Discover Kenauk Nature

The outfitter

Kenauk Nature offers a unique resort and outdoor experience in the heart of a vast private reserve in the Outaouais. Stays take place in 22 eco-responsible 4 and 5-star chalets, which are energy self-sufficient and located on the shores of private lakes. The reserve is home to several fish species, including rainbow trout, brook trout, lake trout, bass, and northern pike. Visitors enjoy dedicated watercraft, guided fishing, clay pigeon shooting, and hiking trails for complete immersion in nature.

Its story

Rooted in Canadian History 1674-2012 Kenauk has a rich history dating back to 1674. Initially, this 259-square-kilometer seignorial estate was granted by the King of France to Monseigneur Laval, the first Bishop of Quebec. In nearly 350 years, the property has had only four other owners, all of whom managed to maintain this parcel of land as a single entity, minimally affected by human operations. A Turning Point in Kenauk's History 2013 This 65,000-acre property was put up for sale. Located between Montreal and Gatineau and easily accessible by highways, it was a target for many land developers. The stakes:

the territory is an integral part of an important wildlife corridor essential for the migration of several species—its preservation was critical. In 2013, a unique partnership between Nature Conservancy Canada and four Canadian families was born, with the ambitious goal of preserving this territory in perpetuity, thus maintaining the wilderness state of Kenauk’s forests and lakes. A Decade of Discoveries and Achievements 2013 to 2023 More than 10 years after the acquisition of the property, conservation actions have multiplied, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the territory, which will remain intact for the benefit of the community for generations to come. In addition to its conservation and its role in research and education for future generations through the Kenauk Institute, the territory is open to the general public year-round through the Kenauk Nature outfitter. A fish hatchery is also located on-site to ensure incomparable fishing quality for visitors and to supply fine restaurants across our beautiful province.

Territory and geography

Located northeast of the village of Montebello in the Outaouais, Kenauk Nature spans a vast wilderness territory dotted with dozens of lakes and rivers, including the imposing 14 km² Lake Papineau and the Kinonge River. Easily accessible via Highway 50, the property is just 60 minutes from Ottawa and 90 minutes from Montreal. The estate offers remarkable seclusion, where most cabins feature exclusive access to their own body of water in the heart of the forest.

On site

Enjoy outdoor activities year-round on a protected conservation territory. Considered one of the best outdoor sites in Quebec, Kenauk Nature offers activities for cabin guests as well as day users. Whether for a family hike or a day of adventure, there is something for everyone.
