River Thelon — Andrew Lake Lodge

The Thelon River originates at Lynx Lake, situated on the edge of the tree line in the Northwest Territories. This major Arctic river flows through unique tundra landscapes and serves as the core of the Thelon Wildlife Sanctuary. The river is famous for its fast waters and rapids that host prime populations of arctic grayling, lake trout, and northern pike. It is a world-renowned route for self-guided and custom wilderness canoe expeditions. The banks of the Thelon River provide extraordinary opportunities for wildlife viewing, particularly during the late summer barren-ground caribou migrations, as well as sightings of muskoxen and grizzly bears. Access to the river watershed is provided via floatplane charter flights operating out of Fort Smith or Yellowknife.
