Arthur in 1872 during a hunting expedition on the Picanoc River. Forestry companies such as Gilmour and Hudson, Gillies Brothers, and Independent Coal and Lumber Company shaped the economic life of Otter Lake for nearly a century. In 2006, Martin Leduc, a trapping enthusiast since childhood, and his partner Danielle Marchand acquired the establishment, then known as Squaw Lake Outfitter. Recognizing the offensive nature of the term "Squaw," the owners engaged in a consultation process with the MRC of Pontiac, the Kitigan Zibi Algonquin Nation, and Shirley Tolley, representative to the Algonquin Anishinabe Nation Tribal Council. Consequently, the lake was renamed Shingwôk Lake, meaning "White Pine" in the Algonquin language. In this same spirit of respect and reconciliation, the outfitter adopted the name Pourvoirie Tisonagan. The word "Tisonagan" means "trap" in Algonquin, directly referencing the trapping activities practiced by Martin Leduc on his lines and showcased in his documentary series.

The forest landscape is characterized by the presence of white pine, whose Algonquin name "Shingwôk" inspired the naming of the main lake. Selective harvesting on the territory has promoted young regrowth, which is particularly favorable for wildlife feeding and movement, while also creating natural shooting lanes. In terms of wildlife, the territory is home to an aquatic population of lake trout and brook trout, the latter being subject to continuous stocking in Norman Lake. Land wildlife includes a high density of white-tailed deer and a large population of black bears, as well as small game such as ruffed grouse. The area also hosts numerous fur-bearing animals and wild canids, including beaver, otter, mink, fisher, marten, weasel, wolf, coyote, and fox.
