Discover Abram Lake Park

The outfitter

Located on the shores of Abram Lake in Northwestern Ontario, Abram Lake Park is a family-owned estate offering a year-round fishing and outdoor experience. The site features eight fully equipped log cabins, an RV park, and camping facilities. The English River water system provides opportunities to fish for walleye, lake trout, northern pike, bass, muskellunge, whitefish, and yellow perch. Visitors can also enjoy sandy beaches, nearby snowmobile trails, and ice fishing.

Its story

The history of Abram Lake Park is intimately linked to its own sawmill and the artisanal construction of its accommodations. Around 1978, Ray Beebe brought a 1950s Corley sawmill from Indiana. Gurney Baverstock set it up near Sioux Lookout, beginning to saw white pine and spruce with a 54-inch blade, while his partner Gord Fenelon was transferred to Fort Frances by the Ministry of Natural Resources. On May 1, 1989, Allan and Paula Pizziol acquired the outfitter. The sawmill, which had been unused for several years and overtaken by vegetation, was brought back to life with the help of Jamie

Arnold and Peter Dunham. Neighbor Chester Carlbom then helped convert the equipment to a hydraulic system to ensure safe operation, while a surplus army parachute initially served as a temporary roof over the facility. By hauling in local logs of spruce, red pine, black ash, cedar, birch, and tamarack using a 1950 Timberjack skidder, the team set out to build log cabins. Under the direction of master builder Treacy Harrison of Thunder Bay, assisted by the Pizziol family and several local workers, Birch Haven cabin was completed in June 1995, followed by Aspen Lodge in July 1995 and Cedar Crest in May 1996. Over the years, the Dogwood, Evergreen, and Firlough cabins were also erected using wood processed on-site. Today, Abram Lake Park is managed by Corrie, Randy, and Cheyenne Strating, who continue this tradition of hospitality in the heart of Northwestern Ontario.

Set on a 35-acre territory featuring 3,000 feet of shoreline and two natural sandy beaches, the site is surrounded by forest and water in the Sunset Country region. It offers direct access to the English River system via Abram Lake. Upstream, the lake connects to Minnitaki and Botsford Lakes, while downstream it leads to Pelican Lake and Lac Seul. This vast navigable network provides a diverse aquatic environment for fishing and outdoor recreation, while remaining directly accessible by road.

I have nothing but praise for this park. A beautiful setting, a warm atmosphere and an exceptional staff. The last time I went there, I was 6 or 7 years old; I am 29 now. As soon as we arrived, Corrie immediately put my family and me at ease. Her instructions were very simple and all the necessary information was invaluable. She was always available whenever we needed anything. The park is simply gorgeous, with splendid scenery and absolute peace and quiet. My 1 and 2-year-old daughters loved the new playground; impossible to get them out of it! My 11-year-old daughter had a blast at the beach with her sisters: the water was warm and the sandbar was perfect for the kids! Fishing off the dock was excellent in the evening, even during a heatwave! For several nights in a row, I managed to catch between 5 and 7 fish right from the dock, including some nice walleye! I am originally from Sioux Lookout and I have wonderful memories of camping and family time at the park as a child. It was awesome to share these experiences with my own family. We had a great time and are already talking about planning our next trip to the park!

First visit with our bus and we have absolutely zero complaints! For eight days, I saw Randy and Corrie working tirelessly and even building a new playground for the kids, as well as a horseshoe pit. A storm was approaching and I was worried about the branches threatening us, but no worries, they came out and cut them down. The docks are beautiful and the grounds are impeccably maintained.
