The outfitter
Located on Wigwascence Lake, 75 air miles northeast of Pickle Lake in northwestern Ontario, Birch Bark Lodge is a remote fly-in outfitter. Wigwascence Lake stretches 7.5 miles and is part of the 250-mile-long Pinemuta River water system. This wild territory features a wide diversity of aquatic structures, including bays, islands, reefs, creeks, and rapids. The outfitter welcomes guests to a small family-run complex consisting of two comfortable cabins equipped with all modern amenities. For fishing, the lake boasts high-density populations of walleye and trophy northern pike, subject to very low fishing pressure. The use of live bait is prohibited and

unnecessary here. In the spring, walleye congregate near inflows and rapids before moving to rocky structures in the summer, while trophy pike frequent shallow bays before heading to deeper weed beds. An American Plan package, including three home-cooked meals per day, is available for anglers. In late September, the establishment offers week-long stays dedicated to moose hunting in Wildlife Management Unit 1C. Due to the dense forest cover, hunting is primarily done by boat along shorelines, islands, and waterways, using calling techniques during the rut. Hunters can choose between a guided package, including one guide per hunter for calling and field dressing, or an unguided package. Boating equipment, motors, and fuel are provided on-site.
