The outfitter
Located in Minaki in Northwestern Ontario, Cygnet Lake Camp offers an experience that combines the fishing quality of a remote camp with the simplicity of direct road access. Operated by the Schafer family since 2002, this family-run establishment is set on a private lake of approximately 3,500 acres dotted with 12 islands, with no public access and shared with only one other small resort. The lake is fed from the south by the Cygnet River, which flows out to the north just a few hundred yards from the camp. Anglers primarily target walleye, which are particularly abundant thanks to the

lake's structure and its baitfish population. The waterbody is also home to northern pike, yellow perch, and smallmouth bass. The outfitter issues fishing licenses on-site, provides live bait, and offers the services of local guides as well as trips to neighboring backcountry lakes. For hunting, the establishment organizes dedicated black bear trips in the spring (starting the third Saturday in May for two weeks) and fall (from mid-August to mid-September) over baited sites. Whitetail deer hunting takes place from the last week of October through the first two weeks of November. Field dressing and quartering services are included in the packages. Accommodation consists of eight fully equipped housekeeping cabins.
