We spent a week here in early September 2024. Despite unpredictable weather, the fishing and the resort were wonderful. The fish were only not biting during thunderstorms, which kept us off the lake anyway. The cabin was comfortable. The docks were nice. The rental boat and motor were excellent. The owners were very helpful. A few important points: if you are coming to fish for walleye, leave your Bandit lures/crankbaits, rigs, and soft plastics at home. All you will need are jig heads and live minnows (available at the resort). The walleye clearly prefer them. If you are coming to fish for pike, bring your muskie gear (not your big "pounder" or "Medusa" style lures, as you will be fishing in shallow, weedy bays, as well as river and creek mouths). The pike are huge. We caught plenty over a metre, including our best day with 12 catches over a metre in just 3 hours. The largest measured just under 109 cm and weighed over 9 kg.

This place has become my home away from home. I am fortunate to personally know the lodge owners and, over the past twelve years, we have become like family. I am certainly not the only guest to say this, and I deeply admire the relationships they build with their guests. The lodge is a family business and is run as such. They take care of the property and constantly strive to improve the guest experience. They even check in with everyone to make sure everybody is happy, the fishing is good, and everyone has everything they need. They are extremely attentive and do things for their guests that other lodge owners I have worked with simply do not do. Fixing motors, looking into boat issues, showing guests berry patches, and the list goes on. Their booking calendar speaks for itself: most of May through September is booked by repeat guests and spots are limited. Summer stays are always great, but my snowmobiling and ice fishing adventures here have also been filled with cherished memories. These activities take place in February and March, and Ian also organizes moose, bear, and wolf hunts. I do not personally participate in these activities, but I have heard extraordinary stories regarding his exceptional success rate and the unforgettable experiences he offers his clients. I look forward to my stay here every year. I could go on raving about this place for a long time, but I think I have made my point. If you are looking to organize a bachelor party, corporate trip, family or friends' getaway to fish, hunt, boat, swim, or snowmobile, I highly recommend checking out 5 Lakes Lodge. With a little luck, you'll find an available week and can create memorable memories with your loved ones too!
