Réservoir Gouin

The Gouin Reservoir: Quebec’s Ultimate Wilderness Fishing ParadiseA true inland sea nestled in the heart of the Mauricie region, the Gouin Reservoir stands as Quebec’s most legendary sport fishing destination. Created in 1918 by the construction of the La Loutre…

dam, this massive body of water stretches over 1,789 square kilometers. It offers an incredibly rich ecosystem designed for lovers of vast open spaces and untouched northern wilderness.A Unique and Protective GeographyThe Gouin Reservoir is unlike any typical lake. Its territory is a fascinating labyrinth made of thousands of islands, peninsulas, fine sand beaches, and isolated bays. This unique geographical layout is a major asset for boaters and anglers: the endless chain of islands breaks up large waves, allowing you to navigate and fish safely while staying well-sheltered from strong boreal winds. The Kingdom of Walleye and Trophy Northern PikeWorld-renowned by fishing guides and biologists alike, the Gouin features perfect underwater structures—deep drop-offs, rocky points, and dense weed beds—that foster an abundant aquatic population. This is the premier destination in Canada to easily hit your daily limits of aggressive walleye and experience intense battles with trophy-sized Northern pike.Complete Disconnection in the Boreal ForestAccessible via logging roads through the Upper Mauricie (via La Tuque) or exclusively by floatplane to reach its most pristine, remote areas like the East Bay, the Gouin Reservoir guarantees absolute isolation. Far from urban light pollution, the night sky puts on spectacular northern lights displays, while the surrounding boreal forest remains a safe haven for moose, black bears, and majestic bald eagles.

Its story

Founded in 1985, Pourvoirie Baie de l'Est was born from a bold vision: to offer fishing enthusiasts exclusive and privileged access to the most pristine section of the Gouin Reservoir. From the very beginning, the outfitter's history has been deeply intertwined with aviation, thanks to its historical partnership with Air Mont-Laurier. Over the decades, the site has successfully preserved its authentic boreal charm while modernizing its 10 cabins to ensure top-notch comfort in the heart of the wilderness. Today, Baie de l'Est remains a premier destination in Quebec, celebrated for its warm hospitality and world-class walleye and trophy pike fishing.

Territory and geography

At the Heart of Gouin Reservoir: The Exclusive Experience of Baie de l'Est Tucked into the eastern section of the majestic Gouin Reservoir, Pourvoirie Baie de l'Est unveils a wild territory of exceptional richness. This vast body of water, carved by wind and time, is a true labyrinth of fine-sand beaches, mysterious islands, and sheltered bays where dense aquatic plants thrive—an ideal paradise for trophy walleye (dorés) and giant northern pike (brochets). To the north, the landscape rises: an impressive mountain is split by the bays of Chalets Three and Four, creating a rugged backdrop of rocky shorelines and sandy

points. This unique geography becomes a vast, safe playground. No matter the weather, the many islands and rocky points let anglers take shelter easily and cruise in comfort when winds pick up. A Scenic Trip to Total Seclusion The adventure starts well before the first cast. Access to this boreal sanctuary is exclusively by air. You’ll board a panoramic seaplane flight lasting 1 h 10. Takeoff is from the seaplane base on Lac Tibériade, located in Rivière-Rouge—a strategic departure point reachable from Montréal in just two hours. Once you’re in the sky, civilization fades away, making room for the vastness of Haute-Mauricie.

Wildlife and habitat

The exclusive territory of the Baie de l'Est is a typical wilderness sanctuary of the Haute-Mauricie. Its rich waters, dotted with shallow bays and dense aquatic weed beds, create the perfect habitat for an exceptional population of trophy yellow pickerel and large Northern pike. Rocky shorelines and sandy points are bordered by a dense boreal forest where moose, black bears, and beavers can all be found. Looking up, you’ll regularly spot the majestic bald eagle and the common loon, whose call helps define the unique atmosphere of the Gouin Reservoir.

On site

No surprise, sport fishing for walleye and northern pike is the main attraction on this exceptional body of water. Beyond the line, the unique layout of the bay—its many protective islands and beautiful stretches of fine sand—invites you to explore by boat and enjoy total relaxation in the heart of nature. The site is a haven for wildlife watching, for photographing the Boreal sunsets, and for complete unplugging with family or friends in the comfort of rustic chalets.
