Countless rivers feed its lakes, known for an abundance of northern pike (up to 35 lb) and giant walleye (yellow walleye and blue walleye, over 15 lb). In spring, its black-bear hunt is well regarded, with bears regularly over 350 lb. Originally, the Camp Cooper site was a logging camp belonging to the Canadian International Paper company. Established on the shores of Lake Ventadour, in the James Bay sector and on the borders of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, this timber industry complex served forestry workers operating in this remote region of the Laurentian Plateau. In the 1990s, the facilities were converted to create the Camp Cooper outfitter. This transformation of the historic site relied on the logging camp's existing infrastructure. Pourvoirie Camp Cooper is located in the heart of Nord-du-Québec, on the shores of lac Ventadour (GPS coordinates: 49°00’00.0" N, 74°24’41.0" W). The territory is situated in the immediate vicinity of the Ashuapmushuan wildlife reserve, in the Chibougamau area. As the crow flies, the site is about 350 kilometres north of Montréal. Pourvoirie Camp Cooper offers a range of activities focused on fishing, hunting, and outdoor adventure in a northern setting. Sport fishing is the flagship activity of the estate, targeting Walleye, Blue Walleye, and Northern Pike. Visitors access numerous wild lakes thanks to a fleet of 14 and 16-foot boats equipped with 3.5 to 5 hp outboard motors and marine safety equipment. Fishing guide services are available, as well as transport to fishing sites, access to water body maps, and fish cleaning services.
