Built in 1999, Auberge Harricana has had a storied history. After closing its doors shortly after opening and remaining abandoned for three years, it was rediscovered in 2005 by three Europeans who undertook several months of renovations to bring the building back up to standard. Their efforts were rewarded in 2007 and 2008 with "Le Filon d'Or" awards for customer service quality. After another operational hiatus in 2009 and a period under Royal Bank ownership, a group of six local shareholders acquired the lodge in March 2011, officially reopening it in August 2011.
