Founded about fifty years ago and named for surveyor Louis Poulin de Courval, the outfitter also offers spring black bear hunting and moose hunting, on a territory where a maximum
of three groups are hosted at a time. Lodging is in eleven rustic, four-season cabins, holding 2 to 12 people, with round-the-clock electricity, potable tap water and central heating; the dining room, which seats 46, serves home-style meals and offers wine and beer. Packages are available in European, American, or Modified American plan, with an optional guide service and shore-lunch on the shoreline. Family stays (free paddleboard and kayak, forest walks, wildlife watching) and corporate groups of up to 50 people are also welcome.
Pourvoirie Poulin de Courval traces its origins back approximately fifty years. Its name pays tribute to the surveyor Louis Poulin de Courval, born in Trois-Rivières in 1854 and passed away in Victoriaville in 1940. In 1892, this surveyor conducted surveying work in the Tremblay township in the Saguenay region. It is in memory of his passage and his cartographic work that the 28-square-kilometer main lake and the outfitter were named in his honor. Since its establishment, the estate has operated on a 128-square-kilometer exclusive rights territory located in the Monts-Valin massif. Over the decades, the outfitter has successfully preserved the
wilderness character of its territory and the quality of its wildlife resources, particularly its native speckled trout population. Generations of hunters and anglers have succeeded one another at the site, perpetuating a tradition of vacationing and outdoor recreation in the heart of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.

Pourvoirie Poulin de Courval covers a 128 km² exclusive rights territory in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. Located at an altitude of 600 meters in the heart of the Monts-Valin massif, the estate spans a mountainous terrain where the forest cover consists primarily of black spruce and white birch. The hydrographic network includes about fifty lakes. The main body of water, Lac Poulin de Courval, stretches over nearly 28 km². It drains at its northern end via the Poulin River, a 5 km waterway that joins the Rivière aux Sables before flowing into the Pipmuacan Reservoir. The aquatic ecosystem is distinguished by
the presence of a single fish species: native brook trout (speckled trout). The lakes contain no competing or invasive species and are never stocked. Average catches are around half a pound, with frequent catches of one to two-pound trout and specimens reaching four to six pounds. The land territory and its wetlands provide habitat for several game and observable wildlife species, notably moose, black bear, caribou, fox, snowshoe hare, and grouse. The estate also houses one of the most significant heronries in the province of Quebec.
Pourvoirie Poulin de Courval offers a range of recreational activities focused on fishing, hunting, and wilderness stays. The brook trout fishing season runs from late May to early September. Anglers practice spin or fly fishing, notably with lures such as the Toronto Wobbler, the Little Cleo, or the Muddler Minnow. On the large Lac Poulin de Courval, the outfitter provides 22-foot freighter canoes equipped with 20 to 25 hp outboard motors. About thirty secondary lakes are equipped with 14-foot rowboats, where small outboard or electric motors can be used or rented. Guide services include shore-lunch preparation, as well as gutting
and vacuum-sealing of catches. In June, black bear hunting takes place on an exclusive territory featuring over twelve baited sites, watchtowers, and enclosed blinds. Packages combining bear hunting and fishing are also available. In the fall, moose hunting takes place during seven-day stays. The territory is subdivided into three sectors accommodating a maximum of three groups simultaneously, with access to maintained salt licks, baited sites, and watchtowers. Thank you to Marie-Ève for her exceptional service, her warm welcome, her courtesy and limitless kindness. The water was still too cold despite it being early June, so fishing was a little harder. We still almost reached our quota thanks to the team's advice. The boats are of very good quality, and the motors are well maintained and cause no problems. The cottage we rented (duplex) was perfect, except for my suggestion upon leaving to add a 2nd pillow per bed because these alone are too low. The variety and quality of food (American plan) was excellent. We enjoyed delicious meals and took the time to come back for lunch every day for this reason. Superb place !! Clean and well-equipped both in the cottages and in terms of watercraft! The food is excellent. There is something for everyone! Our cottage neighbours caught their full quota in two days! Personally, I had a nice outing on a paddle board and my partner on a kayak, the sandy lake, shallow along the shores and clear water are ideal! We even picked several berries to add to the pancakes we made for breakfast.
